A former teacher and coach at a Connecticut high school was arrested Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a female student while at the school.
Jason Kymer, 38, of Beacon Falls, was charged with second-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a child and tampering with a witness, the Shelton Police Department said in a news release.
The educator — referred to as a “former high school teacher” by police — is accused of being involved in a sexual relationship with a female student at the school. He previously worked as a physical education teacher and girls’ track coach at Shelton High School in Fairfield County
Earlier in June, the state’s child protection agency said it was working with police on an investigation into Kymer.
At the time, the now-former teacher told the CT Post he was on paid administrative leave, but declined to comment on the investigation.
It’s unclear when Kymer was terminated. A spokesperson for the Shelton Schools District didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment early Friday afternoon.
According to police, detectives identified the student, who confirmed the sexual relationship with Kymer started when she was a 17-year-old student at the school. She also told investigators that the sexual contact occurred on school premises.
The victim, who had blocked Kymer’s phone number, told police that during the investigation, he called her from an unknown number, urging her to “just do the right thing” — which likely led to the tampering with a witness charge.
Kymer was arrested Friday morning and released on a $50,000 court-set bond, officials said. He’s expected back in court on Monday.
Anyone with information about this incident or similar incidents involving Kymer is urged to contact the Shelton Detective Bureau at (203) 924-1544.
