Atlanta police descended on the area around Emory University early Friday evening in response to reports of gunshots being fired near campus.
“The Atlanta Police Department is responding to reports of an active shooter in the area of Emory University, near 1760 Clifton Rd., Atlanta, Ga. Please avoid the area,” the department posted on social media around 5:30 p.m.
The school’s emergency response office followed up with its own post just before 6 p.m., confirming an active shooter on campus near the Emory Point CVS, which is located in a shopping center of stores, restaurants and apartments where some students live.
A wounded officer was reportedly rushed to Emory University Hospital, according to Georgia station WSB-TV. Footage captured by CNN appears to show a uniformed cop being carried on a stretcher into a waiting ambulance.

The FBI in Atlanta said it too was responding to reports of gunfire and coordinating with local officials.
Students and faculty were told to take shelter while law enforcement investigated the incident.
A follow-up post at 6:26 p.m. warned the campus community that there “continues to be a police emergency” and that civilians should remain in place.
This is a developing story.
