An active shooter was reported at Fort Stewart in Georgia on Wednesday afternoon, and the base reported “multiple casualties.”
Four people were taken to the hospital, local CBS affiliate WTOC said. Authorities did not confirm the injury count.
“The installation was locked down at 11:04 a.m. and law enforcement is on the scene at the time,” read a message on the base Facebook page. “Casualties have been reported and the situation is ongoing.”
Fort Stewart lies about 40 miles southwest of Savannah and is home to about 10,000 military and civilian residents. It is home to the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division and several reserve units.
