‘Aggressive’ coyote ambushes person in 2nd NJ attack this week

A person was attacked by an “aggressive” coyote while working in their yard in New Jersey on Tuesday, the second such incident this week.

The attack occurred around 6:30 p.m. at a home in Saddle River in Bergen County when the animal knocked the homeowner to the ground and bit them multiple times.

When officers arrived, they determined the coyote was a visibly sick animal that had no fear of humans. It was euthanized by animal control officers and sent off for testing, including whether or not it was rabid.

The victim was taken to Valley Hospital in Paramus for treatment.

Just 3 miles away, a Woodcliff Lake woman and dog were similarly attacked by a coyote. That animal ran off after biting the woman multiple times. It’s unclear if the same animal was involved in Tuesday’s attack.

Anyone who sees a coyote acting aggressively is advised to call local police. Anyone who sees a coyote showing no fear of humans should contact the Division of Fish and Wildlife.
