Alec Baldwin’s wife says he ‘wanted to kill himself’ after ‘Rust’ shooting

Alec Baldwin considered suicide the day after the October 2021 shooting on the set of his movie “Rust,” according to his wife, Hilaria.

The revelation was shared in the second episode of “The Baldwins,” the new TLC reality show that chronicles Alec and Hilaria as they navigate the aftermath of the tragic incident.

“I found these text messages the other day between us, you know, the day after,” Hilaria, 41, told a friend in a scene from “The Baldwins,” referring to the day after the shooting on the set of the western that was filming in New Mexico.

The “Manual Not Included” author explained, “He said he wanted to kill himself.”

Alec, 66, was holding a prop gun during a rehearsal for a scene in “Rust” when it discharged, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring the director Joel Souza.

“He has survivor’s guilt,” Hilaria shared in a confessional-style interview. “You’re involved in this thing that nobody could even possibly imagine. And so it goes back to that day.”

She added, “He wishes it were him. He would change places in a second.”

“This has affected his health and his mental health tremendously. The past few years, all of a sudden he, you know, has started having heart problems,” Hilaria said. “He’s been hospitalized multiple times.”

The podcaster also revealed that Alec has fainted since the “Rust” shooting.

“Everybody’s just screaming I’m going on top [of him] and I’m shaking him,” she recalled.

“It’s hard sometimes. But you know, hopefully, we’re in the hardest but the tail end of it.”

The “30 Rock” alum, who is also a producer on “Rust,” has always maintained that he did not pull the trigger that fatally shot Hutchins and did not know that the gun was loaded with live bullets. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter, but the case was dismissed in July 2024 on the grounds that prosecutors withheld evidence that could have been beneficial in the star’s defense.

Prosecutors ultimately dropped their appeal of the ruling last December.

Alec has said that he still struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder from the tragedy.

The actor and his wife were recently trolled by a Trump impersonator named Jason Scoop, who taunted the couple outside of their New York City home.

After a video of Scoop’s exchange with Alec went viral, the comedian claimed that Hilaria chased him “around the block” in heels and tried to grab his phone during the encounter.

“She lunged for my phone,” Scoop, who is a Trump fan, told TMZ on Feb. 25.
