Alicia Silverstone had a big crush on Cary Elwes.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly published Saturday, Aug. 16, the “Clueless” star opened up about making her film debut in 1993’s “The Crush.”
Silverstone, who was just 16 at the time, starred in the psychological thriller alongside Elwes, then 30, and she told the outlet that it was a dream come true – even despite the pair’s 14-year age difference.
“I just remember that, when I was little, telling people that I was ‘going to kiss the boy from The Princess Bride, but he’s a lot older than me,’” she shared. “We had this kiss in the film and, because I was young, I thought that meant he was my boyfriend now.”
“Not really, but a little bit,” Silverstone added. “I went to his trailer and asked him if that was okay, and he was so kind.”
Years later, when Elwes’ wife, Lisa Marie Kubikoff, sent Silverstone pictures from the set of “The Crush,” the “Batman & Robin” star still pretended that Elwes was her boyfriend.
“Lisa Marie, his wife, sent me pictures from back in the day where we’re lying together, and I’m looking at her while she’s taking the picture like, ‘This is my man,’” Silverstone joked.
Silverstone also admitted that Elwes was nothing less than a gentleman during their time filming together, and that the “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” actor was more like a big brother to her.
“But, really, he was a really good big brother to me and took care,” she said. “He was so lovely. We had a very professional relationship, and he was very big-brother-like to me, and very sweet and kind.”
“It was just a great job. What a great part to play. It was so fun,” Silverstone added.
Elsewhere during her interview, the “Blast from the Past” star revealed how she almost lost out on her role in “The Crush.”
The Alan Shapiro-directed film follows a 14-year-old girl named Adrian Forrester (Silverstone) who is dangerously obsessed with a 28-year-old writer named Nick Eliot (Elwes).
“At first, I was auditioning almost every day, but I wasn’t getting anything,” Silverstone shared. “Then, all of a sudden, I started to get close to everything. They would say, ‘It’s between you and one other girl.’ But that actually was worse. I’d get so close and then be disappointed, where before I didn’t care.”
“They had me back many, many times, and it seemed like I was going to get the part — and then they offered it to someone else. It felt really bad,” she recalled. “For some reason, I felt like I was supposed to play this psychotic character.”
However, Silverstone ultimately landed the role after the original actress dropped out.
The actress also recently opened up about another one of her first-ever onscreen acting roles, which was a short, one-episode appearance on “The Wonder Years” in 1992.
She shot a scene with the coming-of-age comedy’s star, Fred Savage, who later thought that Silverstone gave him a fake phone number.
“Fred asked me for my number, which was really sweet, because I was 14,” she explained. “My home phone number was also a fax machine of my dad’s work.”
“So he had tried calling that a few times, and it just went straight to fax,” Silverstone laughed. “So he thought I gave him a fake number or something.”
After starring in the erotic thriller “Pretty Thing,” which premiered last month, Silverstone is set to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in Peacock’s upcoming “Clueless” reboot series.
While Silverstone admitted that she “never thought” about doing a revival of the 1995 classic, she is “excited” and confident that the new show will “honor” the original movie.
