Budget fashionistas are flocking to Amazon to snag a designer handbag that looks remarkably similar to an Hermès “Kelly.”
The satchel, adorned with a top handle and buckle just like the luxury handbag, costs only $42, a fraction of the price tag for an Hermès.
It is available in two sizes and three colors — beige, black and khaki — and is made from polyurethane leather, a synthetic material meant to mimic the appearance of genuine leather.
Shoppers rave that the tiny tote, sold by the brand Yatoga, is “good quality” and “worth the money.”
“I have dreamed and wished for a Hermès bag as long as I can remember … and honestly can’t see myself spending 50-60K on a bag when I don’t have that, but let me tell you how happy I was when my niece told me about this and man you cannot tell the difference with quality and looks,” one reviewer wrote.
“Yes, no orange box or dust cover but the purse is amazing. Looks so believable that I only use on special occasions.”
Another satisfied customer wrote the purse’s nice look is a pleasant “surprise” and praised its “function,” concluding, “You cannot go wrong with this ‘Kelly’-styled bag.”
Amazon is now stocked with products similar to other designer goods.
The hype for haute-inspired handbags took off last year with Walmart’s take on the Hermès “Birkin.”
Nicknamed the “Wirkin,” the $78 purse bares a striking resemblance to the iconic designer item.
“[For] $80, you can pretend that you got a ‘Birkin,’” one “Wirkin” customer said in a viral video.
“I mean, everybody’s gonna probably know it’s not, because who the hell has money to spend on a real ‘Birkin’?”
“Birkins” — notoriously difficult to acquire — are estimated to cost at least $9,000 new, according to past reports, but could ring in at upward of $100,000 on the secondhand market.
For those who want to splurge on the real deal, the brand’s artistic director, Pierre-Alexis Dumas, revealed that style savants will “have to be patient.”
“You go to a store. You get an appointment. You meet a salesperson. You talk about what you want. It’s not available. You’ll have to wait. They’ll come back to you. It takes a long time,” he told CBS News last year.
“Eventually, it’s gonna happen.”
