Anjelica Huston reveals she was diagnosed with cancer in 2019

Oscar winner Anjelica Huston has revealed for the very first time that she was diagnosed with cancer in 2019.

The 73-year-old actress did not specify the particular type of cancer, but said she’s been “in the clear” for four years and is finally comfortable enough to speak about it after privately seeking treatment.

“Sometimes you feel like you don’t want to talk about it for the obvious reasons,” Huston told People magazine this week. “But there’s a lot to be said for talking about it and getting it out there and celebrating the fact that one’s come through.”

The daughter of late filmmaker John Huston said she learned of her diagnosis shortly after the May 2019 release of “John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum.”

“It came as a big shock, but it made me conscious of what I shouldn’t do, of places I shouldn’t go,” she reflected. “One of those places was taking life too seriously. So now when the opportunity arises, I laugh, and I try not to make a big deal out of things.”

“I managed to survive it, and I’m proud of myself,” she added, noting that she’s been “very lucky” and had wonderful doctors by her side.

With the cancer in her rearview mirror, Huston has returned her focus to work. She next stars in the BritBox miniseries “Towards Zero,” based on Agatha Christie’s 1944 novel of the same name. The three-part series will air over three nights, beginning on April 16.
