Anna Kendrick is looking back on her less-than-pitch perfect introduction to psychedelic mushrooms alongside close friend Brittany Snow.
The “Woman of the Hour” star, 39, revealed during Wednesday’s appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” that the “Pitch Perfect” co-stars celebrated Halloween 2023 high as a kite in the corner of a party.
“I might have to take it easy this year,” Kendrick said. “We went to this party and someone asked if I wanted to try microdosing mushrooms. … And I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m fun.’ And that’s how you know you’re fun, when you have to say it out loud.”
Though she went so far as to cut her already small dose in half, the Oscar nominee quickly learned that “sometimes there can be one little bite that doesn’t have a microdose, it has a real macrodose.”
“It’s the first time I’ve ever tried mushrooms,” continued the “Twilight” alum. “And I’m just like getting so high and I just start saying, ‘Oh no, oh, I’m so high. Oh God, I’m so high.’ And I just can’t stop saying it.”
It was then that Snow realized she’d “abandoned” Kendrick on her trip and “like a hero, just took a bunch more mushrooms … to meet me.”
According to Kendrick, they eventually found themselves sitting in the corner of the party, “staring at each other, grinning like the Joker while like streaming tears, but we felt great.”
The pair then spent the rest of the night trading compliments back and forth, which culminated in Kendrick telling the “John Tucker Must Die” star that she “should remake the film ‘Chinatown.’ So those were my big revelations from mushrooms.”
Kendrick is currently promoting her directorial debut, Netflix film “Woman of the Hour,” which centers on a woman who meets serial killer and sex offender Rodney Alcala during an appearance on “The Dating Game” in 1978, in the midst of his murder spree.
