Arrested burglar believed to be serial slasher in 3 unprovoked Brooklyn attacks

A suspect arrested for a bizarre burglary in a Brooklyn apartment building is believed to be the serial slasher who then went on to attack three strangers at random over the next 24 hours, police sources said Monday.

Odyssey Head, 27, was nabbed in Coney Island, where he lives, about 6:30 p.m. Sunday and is initially being charged with burglary, trespass and criminal mischief, police sources said.

He has not yet been charged with the slashings but sources say he had a kitchen knife on him when he was arrested that cops believe was used in all three slashings.

Head allegedly entered an apartment building without permission on New York Ave. near Newkirk Ave. in Flatbush about 5 a.m. Saturday. He damaged a washer and dryer and set fire to some items of clothing before running off, police say.

Just 90 minutes later he allegedly slashed a a 37-year-old man without warning on the left side of the face on a Manhattan-bound Q train, police said.

The victim got off the train at Church Ave. in Flatbush and alerted police while the attacker apparently stayed on the subway until the next stop before getting away.

Police released a surveillance image of the suspect in the subway slashing that afternoon and asked the public’s help identifying him.

But as cops and the public were looking out for him, the suspect went on to attack two more strangers, walking up behind both on the street and slashing them in the left side of the face, police said.

About 9:40 p.m. Saturday, he attacked a 53-year-old man near New York and Foster Aves., a block from the apartment building cops say Head burglarized, cops say.

Then about 6:55 a.m. Sunday, the serial slasher attacked a 56-year-old man just a block away, near New York and Newkirk Aves., just outside the apartment building where Head is accused of setting clothes on fire.

All three slashing victims were taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.

Hours before nabbing him in Coney Island, cops released a photo of Head to the public and asked their help tracking him down, naming him as the suspect in the laundry room arson. They noted he was believed to be armed and dangerous.
