A New Jersey police officer was shot in the back while responding to a call about an armed man at the Gallery Holiday Motel in Irvington.
The shooting occurred during a gunfight between an unidentified suspect and officers around noon on Wednesday, according to ABC News.
The officer who was shot was treated at Rutgers University Hospital, according to CBS News, and was said to be in stable condition.
Two other cops were reportedly hospitalized for evaluation.
Two people were taken into custody, but their identities have not been released.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s office couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
Augusta Street School was reportedly locked down for about 45 minutes as a precautionary measure until the matter was resolved.
The motel where the incident occurred is roughly 15 miles west of lower Manhattan.
