Author Colleen Hoover, known for bestselling novels like “It Ends With Us” and “Regretting You,” revealed she was diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing treatment.
“Second to last day of radiation!” Hoover wrote in an Instagram Story on Monday, which included a photo of her in a hospital gown and sweatpants.
“I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @texas.oncology but they’ve been great,” she said. “Hope you never need them, but highly recommend them.”
It’s unclear how long Hoover has been receiving treatment or what type of cancer she has. She reportedly had surgery to remove the cancer last month.
In a Facebook post last week, Hoover went into more detail.
“I got results back today from the geneticist that say my cancer did not come from family genes,” she wrote. “It also didn’t come from the two main causes of the cancer, which are HPV and excessive hormones.”
Cervical cancer is one of the most-common cancers caused by HPV, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“This means it was more than likely environmental/lifestyle, which is lack of exercise, poor diet and stress,” Hoover said. “I’m happy and grateful to be alive but I hate vegetables. I hate when I have to get off the couch. I hate sweating. I hate when science is right.”
Several of Hoover’s books have been adapted into films, including “Verity” and “Reminders of Him,” both of which will hit theaters later this year. The movie adaptation of “It Ends With Us” has been embroiled in scandal since late 2024, after production devolved into a bitter legal battle between co-stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
Hoover’s newest novel, “Woman Down,” was released on Tuesday.
