Badlands’ swooped down on its foes, grabbing 1st place on its opener

It annihilated the competition.

“Predator: Badlands” got a hold of audiences this Friday, its opener, and earned the top spot in theaters — chomping down on $15.6 million in earnings, according to The Numbers

The sci-fi horror flick, the ninth installment in the “Predator” franchise, has “enough familiar situations and high-tech hunting gear to satisfy hardcore fans of the series, but a story that stands alone,” said RogerEbert.com.

In second was the romantic drama “Regretting You,” which moved up three spots from last week, and took in $2.22 million.

“Sarah’s Oil,” a biopic about Sarah Rector, an 11-year-old who finds black gold beneath the property she inherited and becomes one of the first black women millionaires in the country, landed in third, with a $1.7 million take.

In fourth place was the supernatural horror film “Black Phone 2,” with $1.5 million in revenue on its fourth Friday in theaters.

“Nuremberg” took fifth on its opener Friday, with sales of $1.45 million.

Based on the 2013 book “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist” by Jack El-Hai, the film centers on a psychiatrist, played by Rami Malek, who must rule on whether Hermann, one of the most powerful figures in the Nazi party, played by Russell Crowe, is fit to stand trial.
