Bill Murray didn’t come to the yard.
The “Ghostbusters” actor, 74, cleared up the rumors that he was dating “Milkshake” singer Kelis, 43, during an interview last week on SiriusXM’s “Sway in the Morning.”
“I met this girl named Kelis. I got great press that I was dating her, which really raised my cred,” Murray said.
“Well, it was false humility again,” he added.
Murray explained that he became a fan of Kelis after watching the music video for the 1999 Ol’ Dirty Bastard song “Got Your Money,” which features the musician.
“That song just kills me,” said Murray. “I love that video. And I kept going, ‘That’s the silliest thing. How did I miss that when it came out in the first place? It’s so crazy.’ And I’m going, ‘Who is that girl with the red hair?’ and it was Kelis.”
“I just had to meet her some time,” he added. “She turns out to be spectacular.”
Murray confirmed that he talked to the “Trick Me” singer “recently” — and she told him about a big life update.
“She bought land in Kenya, in Africa. She’s in Africa,” Murray shared. “She is not afraid of the dark. She just goes out there and goes, ‘Well, I think I’ll just go to Africa and start a farm.’”
When host Sway Calloway asked Murray if he dated Kelis, he shook his head and responded, “No.”
“Hey, you know, one of us could be on the rebound any second,” Murray joked. “She might need a plowman down there.”
The US Sun reported in June 2023 that the two stars — who are 30 years apart in age — were dating.
At the time, Murray was spotted watching Kelis from the side stage during her show in London. They even posed for a picture together backstage at the Mighty Hoopla festival.
Kelis later denied the relationship rumors when an Instagram commenter asked her to “address these Bill Murray allegations.”
“lol no babe, I wouldn’t bother at all,” she responded on the comments of one of her posts.
When another user said in a comment to Kelis that “media is destroying y’all,” she wrote back, “Lol yeah maybe for now everyones dumb and will believe everything but the best part is we are both blessed, rich and happy. So who’s really laughing […] now that’s funny.”
The US Sun reported that Murray and Kelis allegedly bonded over their last spouses.
Kelis’ second husband, Mike Mora, died of stomach cancer in March 2022, while Murray’s ex-wife, costume designer Jennifer Butler, died in 2021.
