His achy breaky heart is hoping for healing.
Billy Ray Cyrus is speaking out after his son Trace posted an open letter expressing concern for the singer’s wellbeing in the wake of his performance at one of Donald Trump’s inaugural events.
On Sunday, the Grammy winner, 63, posted a portion of the music video for his 2009 song “Somebody Said a Prayer” on YouTube Shorts, which shows Trace, 35, playing a teenager struggling to cope after the death of his father. The clip intercuts a sad-looking Trace sitting on his bed, holding a bottle of alcohol, with happy moments of him and his character’s recently departed dad.
“Sunday callin,” Billy Ray wrote in the caption. “Giving thanks for the California Rain. Praying for the brokenhearted and their pain.”
“Praying for my family. For my children … sons and daughters…and their mother,” he added, referring to his ex-wife Tish Cyrus.
“Let this moment be the start of healing ❤️???? for us all. ‘The past does not equal the future.’ Amen ????????”
Billy Ray also shared an uplifting message on Sunday with a post on Instagram.
“I was reminded this morning with Tommy Jack and Rain what Johnny Cash said in his letter to me ‘all good things come from above,’” the country star captioned a photo of Cash’s letter to him and a clip of deer walking in a field. “Even the deer…. in a moment like this.”
A Cyrus family source has also spoken out, insisting that Billy Ray is in good health despite his son’s concern.
“Billy Ray is healthy and happy and doesn’t do any substances,” the source told The Post. “The man doesn’t drink. He doesn’t do drugs.”
Referring to Billy Ray’s performance at the Liberty Ball to celebrate Trump’s inauguration, which led to speculation that he was possibly under the influence, the insider added, “He was totally sober.”
Billy Ray’s inauguration performance suffered technical difficulties after his guitar failed him, leading him to sing a cappella.
“Everyone thinks he was inebriated because his voice isn’t the same,” the source continued, explaining that Billy Ray’s voice has changed as he has gotten older.
“It wasn’t a bomb. It wasn’t a disaster. He was having fun with the audience. He doesn’t need help. He’s healthy and happy in Nashville.”
The insider added, “This is a good man. He loves his family.”
Billy Ray’s social media posts arrived on the heels of Trace’s message to his father on Instagram, saying that he and his siblings are “genuinely worried” about his health.
“Sadly the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognize now,” Trace captioned a photo with his dad that he shared two days after Billy Ray’s inauguration performance. “It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you.
“You may be upset with me for posting this but I really could care less at this point. Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away.”
Miley Cyrus’ older brother went on, “You’re not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it. As I write this with tears in my eyes I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon.”
The former Metro Station musician, who wrote he’s a year and a half clean from alcohol, added, “I don’t know what you’re struggling with exactly but I think I have a pretty good idea & I’d love to help you if you would open up and receive the help.”
After his performance at Trump’s Liberty Ball, Billy Ray said he was thrilled to have been a part of the event.
“I wouldn’t have missed the honor of playing this event whether my microphone, guitar and monitors worked or not. I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me,” he wrote on Instagram after his performance. “I had a ball at the Liberty Ball last night and I’ve learned through all these years when the producer says ‘you’re on,’ you go entertain the folks even if the equipment goes to hell.”
The crooner concluded, “I was there for the people and we had a blast. That’s called rock n roll!!!”
Billy Ray later posted a clip of him singing his hit “Achy Breaky Heart” a cappella with the help of the ball guests after he experienced technical difficulties.
“This was the most fun part of the Liberty Ball! And if you didn’t see it… you just had to be there,” he captioned the video. “I just don’t think you understand.”
