The body of a New York woman who disappeared while hiking in Maine with her father was found on Wednesday, one day after his body was recovered.
The body of 28-year-old Esther Keiderling was located around 1 p.m. in a wooded area of Mount Katahdin’s Tableland, in Baxter State Park, according to park officials.
The discovery came roughly 24 hours after the body of her father, 58-year-old Tim Keiderling, was found on Tuesday near the summit of Katahdin.
Their bodies, while separated, where both found in the same off-trail area.
The father and daughter were last seen in the campground before setting off on a hike Sunday morning. The difficult climb of Maine’s tallest mountain typically takes between eight and 12 hours roundtrip.
Park rangers began searching for the pair on Monday when their car was found to still be in the short-term parking lot. A number of agencies, dozens of rescue workers, K9 teams and helicopters participated in the days-long search.
Officials have not yet said what they believe may have led to the Keiderlings deaths.
The father and daughter were both from Ulster Park, a Hudson Valley town just south of Kingston.
