Boy, 11, loses fingers setting off fireworks on Brooklyn street



An 11-year-old boy lost several fingers during a fireworks mishap on a Brooklyn street, police said Tuesday.

The child was lighting fireworks near 57th St. and Ninth Ave. in Sunset Park when they exploded while he was still holding onto them about 7:15 p.m. Monday, cops said.

The younger boy suffered injuries to his chest and a severe injury to his right hand, including the loss of several fingers, a police source said. A 13-year-old boy who was with him suffered an injury to his eye.

The boy who lost fingers in the mishap was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was in stable condition. The older boy was taken to Kings County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
