Boy, 15, driving SUV on LIE, rear-ends motorcyclist in deadly Queens collision: NYPD

A Queens man died after a multi-vehicle collision on the Long Island Expressway early Friday morning, police said.

Luis Mareno, 30, was riding his black 2020 Triumph RS motorcycle westbound on the Expressway around 12:44 a.m. when at Exit 22A, in Corona, he was rear-ended by a black 2019 Mitsubishi SUV being driven by a 15-year-old boy. Mareno was ejected from his motorcycle and then struck by a 30-year-old driving a 2015 Toyota Sienna, cops said.

Mareno’s motorcycle then spun across three lanes, striking the driver’s-side rear of an unoccupied 2017 Infinite Q50, that was pulled over.

Mareno was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

It was unclear if the 15-year-old was driving with another person in the car.

Persons under the age of 16 cannot legally drive in New York State, even if holding a permit or license issued by another state, according to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

No arrests have been made in the incident as the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad continues its investigation.
