Boy,14, stabbed to death in Bronx playground brawl, second teen wounded

A 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death and an older boy wounded as a group of teens brawled at a Bronx playground, police said Wednesday.

Angel Mendoza was fatally stabbed all over his body after the fight broke out in Norwood’s Williamsbridge Oval Playground about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, cops said.

Medics rushed Angel to Jacobi Medical Center where he died a little over an hour later. He lived three blocks away from the park, according to cops.

A 17-year-old boy stabbed twice in the stomach and once in the right shoulder in the park near Bainbridge Ave. and E. 207th St. managed to take himself to Montefiore Medical Center. He is expected to recover.

A gun and a knife blade were recovered by cops at the scene.

Five persons of interest were taken into custody but not immediately charged, a police source said.

Residents who live near the playground told police the teens were fighting for about 15 minutes before the stabbing.

“Usually in this park I don’t hear of stabbings like that. So I was surprised,” a witness told ABC 7 New York. “This is like a family park with a bunch of kids running around — camps, activities, elderly activities. It’s pretty much a safe park.”
