Savannah Blackstock Lee — the daughter of Kelly Clarkson’s former husband and manager Brandon Blackstock — shared news of her pregnancy just one month before the death of her father this week. He was 48.
Lee, who already shares 3-year-old son Lake with Quentin Lee, shared the news on Instagram in July, as well as the news that the family had already welcomed a second child.
“We’ve been keeping a couple sweet surprises,” Lee wrote. “One little girl will be making her arrival at the beginning of January and another beautiful girl named Julianna who has already been one of the greatest blessings to our family.”
The 23-year-old is the daughter of Blackstock and Melissa Ashworth, who were married from 2001 to 2012. The former couple also shared a 19-year-old son, Seth.
Blackstock married singer Kelly Clarkson in 2013. Together, they had two children — daughter River in 2014 and son Remington in 2016 — before calling it quits in 2020.
The father of four died after a private battle with cancer.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” the family told the Daily News. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
The day before the announcement, Clarkson postponed her Vegas residency, revealing that her ex-husband was “ill.”
A source told People the “Stronger” singer has “been devastated.”
“When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake,” the source says. “Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids.”
In 2023, Clarkson spoke publicly about co-parenting with Blackstone after their divorce. “I just sit there and I’m like, ‘I get it. I’m from a divorced family as well,” Clarkson said on Angie Martinez’s IRL podcast. “I get it. That sucks. But we’re going to work it out. And you are so loved by both of us.’ “
