Bribery trial of Nadine Menendez, wife of N.J. senator, delayed again amid breast cancer treatment

The bribery trial of Nadine Menendez, wife of former New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez, was delayed again Monday as she continues to undergo treatment for breast cancer.

Nadine Menendez, 57, will head to trial on March 18 in Manhattan Federal Court, the Bergen Record reported. Her trial has already been delayed several times by health issues.

Menendez was originally charged alongside her husband and three New Jersey businessmen in a high-profile bribery case. The other four people, including Bob, were convicted in 2024 on various charges.

But Menendez’s trial was separated as she underwent breast cancer treatments. The latest delay resulted from a request by her attorneys, which prosecutors did not object to, according to the Record.

“No further adjournments of the trial date will be granted absent a clear showing of medical necessity,” Manhattan Federal Judge Sidney Stein wrote.

Bob Menendez, 71, is scheduled for sentencing Wednesday after he was convicted in July 2024 on all 16 counts he faced, including bribery and acting as a foreign agent for Egypt.

Federal investigators said Menendez “put his power up for sale” between 2018 and 2023, while he was an influential Democratic senator representing New Jersey.

In return for Menendez’s influence in the Senate in support of Egypt and Qatar, the businessmen paid him and his wife nearly $500,000 in cash and more than $100,000 in gold bars while also providing several luxury gifts, including a Mercedes-Benz, according to the feds.

Both Menendezes pleaded not guilty. Bob Menendez has appealed his conviction and lodged multiple requests for a new trial, all of which have been rejected in court. He resigned from his Senate seat after he was convicted and faces up to 15 years in prison at Wednesday’s sentencing hearing.
