Bronx bus crash into elevated subway track support injures 6

Six people were treated for minor injuries Thursday night after a Bronx bus smashed into a support column for an elevated subway line.

Bus No. 5566 was operating on the Bx4 line and traveling east on Westchester Ave. when police say the 36-year-old MTA driver lost control of the bus shortly after 8:15 p.m.

The bus subsequently smacked into a support pillar for the elevated tracks of the No. 6 train near Castle Hill Rd.

The driver as well as the five adult passengers on the bus at the time of the crash were all taken to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries, police said.

There was no structural damage to the column, and service on the elevated No. 6 line was unaffected, police added.

The bus is based out of the Gun Hill Depot.

The crash comes three days after a Bronx bus out of the West Farms Depot lost control after an apparent mechanical failure, striking multiple cars before ultimately coming to a stop.
