Bronx mother, 32, fatally struck in hit-and-run in crosswalk

A hardworking Bronx mom heading home from her job was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver as she was in the crosswalk.

Dilmania Lopez de Rodriguez was in the crosswalk Tuesday around 12:08 a.m. near Leggett Ave. and Bruckner Blvd. in Mott Haven, trying to cross from east to west, when the driver of an unidentified vehicle heading north on Bruckner Blvd. in the right lane of the outer roadway struck her, cops said.

EMS transported the victim to Lincoln Hospital where she died.

In a report from the scene, Eyewitness News posted video showing a white box truck turning right from Bruckner Blvd. onto Leggett Ave. and, according to the news outlet, striking a person on a scooter who was waiting for the light to change. The NYPD, though, is describing the victim as a pedestrian.

Lopez de Rodriguez was about a mile away from her home when she was hit, cops said.

The mother of an 8-year-old girl, Lopez de Rodriguez was on her way home from work when she was struck, according to a GoFundMe.

“Dilmania Lopez De Rodriguez was an exemplary mother, a great wife, an amazing daughter, sister, friend, hard-working and an amazing human being,” the fundraiser post read.

When contacted by The News, Lopez De Rodriguez’s family said they are not ready to speak to the media. Her funeral will be held Sunday.

There have been no arrests, and the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the incident.
