Bruce Springsteen unveiled plans on Thursday to release seven “lost” albums — a collection of 83 songs, 74 of which have never officially been released.
Titled “Tracks II: The Lost Albums,” the set includes music written between 1983 to 2018 and will compile “full records, some of them even to the point of being mixed and not released”, Springsteen said in a statement.
The 75-year-old rocker, who sold his entire music catalog to Sony for a reported $550 million in 2021, said in a social media video that the idea to open the vault happened during the COVID-19 lockdown.
“I often read about myself in the ‘90s as having some lost period or something, and really, really I was working the whole time,” he explained.
“During the pandemic, what I did for that period of time was I finished everything I had in my vault. So this is ‘Tracks 2.’”
As the name suggests, the new collection follows 1998’s platinum-selling “Tracks” compilation.
Containing a 100-page hardcover book, “Tracks II” will be released on June 27 via Sony Music on seven CDs or nine vinyl LPs.
“I’ve played this music to myself and often close friends for years now,” he said. “I’m glad you’ll get a chance to finally hear them. I hope you enjoy them.”
Some of the music coming has already been heard by die-hard fans of The Boss. For example, the widely bootlegged “LA Garage Sessions ’83” will finally get an official release.
Also included are the “Streets of Philadelphia Sessions,” the Mexican culture-inspired “Inyo” and the abandoned “Faithless” soundtrack.
The newly released “Rain in the River,” from the “lost” album entitled “Perfect World,” hit streaming platforms on Thursday.
The track will also be included in a leaner companion set — “Lost And Found: Selections from The Lost Albums” — featuring 20 highlights from the full collection. That compilation will also arrive June 27, on two LPs or one CD.
