A Bristol, Conn., would-be burglar had to be rescued by police when he got stuck in a chimney while trying to break into a building, police said.
Officers responded to a burglary complaint about 7:30 a.m. Sunday, when employees at the city’s Parks and Recreation Department told cops someone was stuck in the chimney of a building in Rockwell Park, Bristol Police Lt. Desmond Wilson said.
Firefighters extracted Carlos Owens, 35, and police charged him with burglary, criminal trespass, and criminal mischief, WVIT-TV reported. Owens was trying to enter the building even though he knew he was not permitted inside, Wilson told The Middletown Press.
Released on $50,000 bond, Owens is due in New Britain Superior Court on July 7, WTNH-TV reported.
Owens was unhurt, but the same could not be said of the building, which was damaged along with the chimney itself, Wilson said.
The past is littered with incidents of chimney-wedged burglars, at least two of them fatal — and many of them in California. Most were discovered, while one burglar called 911 for help.
