A cab driver was shot and critically wounded Monday in a botched robbery in the Bronx, according to police sources.
The 27-year-old driver was shot in the torso by an attacker around 4:37 p.m. near Nelson Ave. and West 169th St. in Highbridge, cops said.
The gunman took off into a nearby building where he lived — just steps from the shooting — and was later apprehended by NYPD Emergency service unit, sources said.
“He shot the cab driver and ran home,” a police source said. “He had no where else to go. This is where he was apprehended.”
EMS transported the cab driver to Lincoln Hospital, where he was in critical condition.
It was unclear if the gunman was a passenger in the cab.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
