Carlos Santana, 77, cancels show over medical emergency

Guitar hero Carlos Santana postponed a Tuesday night show in Texas following a medical emergency that occurred during a soundcheck.

San Antonio’s Majestic Theatre, where the 77-year-old musician was scheduled to perform, posted a statement from Santana’s management saying the guitarist’s “Oneness Tour” will continue.

“Mr. Santana was at the venue (Majestic Theatre) preparing for tonight’s show when he experienced an event that was determined to be dehydration,” according to manager Michael Vrionis. “Out of an abundance of caution and the health of Mr. Santana, the decision to postpone the show was the most prudent course of action.”

Vrionis said Santana is doing well and looks forward to returning to San Antonio soon. Fans are advised to hang onto their tickets.

Santana was scheduled to perform in Sugar Land, Texas Wednesday night, but that show too has been postponed, according to TMZ. He’s still slated to play a pair of shows in Oklahoma over the weekend.

The “Maria Maria” singer has reportedly been discharged from the Texas hospital where he was under observation.

Setlists from recent concerts include hits like “Black Magic Woman,” Oye Como Va” and “Smooth.”

Santana collapsed on stage while performing in Michigan in July 2022. That incident too was caused by dehydration, according to the musician’s website.

The Mexican native became a fixture in the San Francisco music scene before giving  a breakthrough performance at the Woodstock festival, where he performed a set list including “Evil Ways” and “Fried Neck Bones and Some Home Fries.”
