Carol Burnett reveals her ‘movie star idol’ was ‘one of the nicest’ people she ever met

It was a wonderful life for Jimmy Stewart.

And according to Carol Burnett, the actor, who died at age 89 in 1997, couldn’t have been a better man.

“One of the nicest people I ever met in my life was my movie star idol, and that was Jimmy Stewart. Everybody loved him,” the actress, 92, told her “Palm Royale” co-star Laura Dern during a conversation for Interview Magazine on Monday.

“Of course, if you want to give somebody power, he certainly had it. But there was nobody that I ever met who was that big of a star who was so humble,” gushed Burnett. “That’s who he was. God knows he did some wonderful work and made some fantastic movies, but there was nobody that I ever knew that was sweeter, and that’s just who he was.”

Stewart shot to fame in 1932 during his Broadway debut in “Carry Nation.” He then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and operated as a commanding officer.

Afterwards, Stewart returned to Hollywood.

Stewart was nominated four other times, including: 1939’s “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” “It’s a Wonderful Life” (1946), 1950’s “Harvey” and again nine year’s later for “Anatomy of a Murder.”

Burnett herself landed her breakout role as Princess Winifred in Broadway’s 1959 musical “Once Upon a Mattress.”

The “Four Seasons” star created her own sketchy comedy show “The Carol Burnett Show” in 1967. The series ran until 1978.

Stewart guest-starred on the show in its earlier days.

Now, 48 years later, Burnett is still entertaining, starring as Norma Dellacorte on the hit Apple TV series, “Palm Royale.”

The dramedy wrapped its second season earlier this week, with Burnett addressing the future of the series while speaking with The Post last weekend.

“It seems like a lot of the stories were wrapped up in this final season,” she explained. “They’d have to, I think, create new characters, because a lot of the people who are in it are doing other things now.”

Along with Burnett and Dern, 58, the series also stars Kristen Wiig, Leslie Bibb, Kaia Gerber, Ricky Martin, Allison Janney, Julia Duffy and Josh Lucas.

“Palm Royale” has been nominated for more than 10 Emmy Awards, with Wiig, 52, nabbing a nom for a 2026 Actor Award.

During Season 1, Burnett’s character was in a coma for most episodes, but she quickly took on a larger role in Season 2. A third season has yet to be green lit by Apple.

As for if Norma should return if there is a Season 3 of the show, Burnett noted: “It would depend, because I have other projects that I’m interested in behind the scenes. So it kind of depends.”

“But I do love Abe Sylvia, who created it,” she added. “He’s a delight to work with.”

Wiig and Martin, 54, meanwhile, teased the future of “Palm Royale” on Jan. 7.

“I have the need to say I hope we have Season 3 so we can just really show off,” the singer, who plays Robert Diaz, teased to Collider. “Did I just say that?”

“Honestly, I can’t even speculate because our writers and Abe Sylvia, the captain of our ship, always just have these ideas that I would never even think of,” Wiig confessed. “I’ve heard nothing about it. We’re just hoping that it happens.”
