The cause of death has been released for Martin Short’s daughter, Katherine Short, who died by suicide last week. She was 42.
The social worker died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her head at her Hollywood Hills home on Feb. 23, according to County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health-issued death certificate, a redacted version of which was published by TMZ.
Short has been cremated, according to the document.
Law enforcement sources last week told TMZ — which previously published dispatch audio from the scene — that a friend reached out to authorities after Short had not “been heard from in 24 hours.”
Sources said Short’s body was ultimately discovered near a gun and “note,” with responding homicide detectives promptly ruling out foul play.
A close friend remembered the NYU alumna as a “beautiful empathetic soul” who “took on the baggage of the world” and did not seem at-risk in their final conversation.
Short was adopted — along with brothers Oliver, 39, and 36-year-old Henry — by Emmy winner Martin Short, 75, and his late wife Nancy Dolman.
“The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time,” a representative previously said in a statement to People. “Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”
