Citibank users report fraud alerts, app outage

Hundreds of Citibank customers reported receiving fraud alerts and having difficulty logging into the app on Wednesday.

The issues began around 9 a.m. ET with a spike of reports coming early in the afternoon, according to Down Detector.

On social media, some said they received fraud alerts, had been unable to speak with someone in the bank’s fraud department and weren’t able to access their accounts on the mobile app. Mobile logins accounted for about 85% of the reported issues.

“How long am I not going to have access to my damn money @Citibank WTH?!! Why is the app down?!!,” one customer asked on X.

“Is there something up @Citibank? Got notification I need to contact them, but I’ve been on hold for HOURS. Can’t initiate a chat session on the web either,” wrote another.

The company replied to many posts on X to reassure customers they were “aware of the issue and are working to fix it” and would “reach out once it’s resolved.”

In a statement to NBC News, the company said it was “experiencing some technical issues with Citi’s mobile app experience, which we are working quickly to resolve.” It suggested customers log in to their accounts using Citi.com or to call the number on the back of their cards for servicing needs.

Citibank has approximately 200 million customer accounts worldwide, according to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
