Columbia student throws unlit Molotov cocktail from dorm room window

A Columbia University student was arrested after tossing an unlit Molotov cocktail from his 14th-floor dorm room, police said Tuesday.

Javen Jovero, 22, filled a plastic bottle with rubbing alcohol and a sock before throwing it out of his dorm room window at Columbia University’s East Campus on Morningside Drive near W. 118th St., police said.

Panicked students dialed 911 and when police responded, officers suffered minor injuries working to place Jovero under arrest.

The student was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside for a psychiatric evaluation, and later charged with criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment, cops said.

The man did not ignite the weapon, and no one was injured in the scare. Police do not believe the stunt was politically motivated.

Jovero, a senior at Columbia studying electrical engineering, competed as a wrestler during his freshman and sophomore years, according to his biography on the university’s wrestling roster.
