A Connecticut man was fatally shot at an illegal after-hours club early Sunday morning, police said.
Jordan Thompson, a 31-year-old Bridgeport resident, was killed in the shooting at the unnamed establishment in the city, the Hartford Courant reported. No one else was injured by gunfire.
No suspects have been arrested or identified in the case. Cops said they arrived to find multiple people fleeing the illegal club, according to the Connecticut Post.
Officers responded to the scene around 3 a.m. Sunday after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire, Hartford NBC affiliate WVIT reported. Responders found Thompson suffering from gunshot wounds and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Thompson’s killing was the first homicide of 2026 in Bridgeport, authorities confirmed. It followed a historically low 2025 crime rate in Connecticut’s most populous city. Bridgeport only saw four homicides all of last year, the lowest number in decades and down from 12 in 2024.
“Every day, the city of Bridgeport is getting better and better with these numbers by leaps and bounds,” Mayor Joe Ganim said at a press conference last week.
Bridgeport’s lower homicide rate was part of a region-wide drop in killings, which also included significantly fewer murders in New York City and Newark, N.J.
Homicides were also down in major cities across the country, with Chicago and Los Angeles recording 35% and 12% decreases, respectively.
