A Connecticut police officer has resigned after he was arrested multiple times, including once for domestic violence, authorities said Tuesday.
Gregory Zach, 42, has stepped down as a member of the Stamford Police Department, the Stamford Advocate reported. The department will seek Zach’s decertification as an officer, officials said.
Zach tendered his resignation on July 25, according to the Advocate. He had been a member of the department for 20 years.
The resignation came one day after Zach was arrested on domestic violence charges. He was detained by his own colleagues in the department.
A woman told investigators she began a relationship with Zach in 2024, but their partnership grew increasingly tumultuous because of Zach’s refusal to accept her speaking with other men.
In October 2024, Zach threatened to kill the woman and a man she was speaking with, she told police. In February 2025, Zach spit in the woman’s face while she was on the phone, cops said.
The incident that sparked charges against Zach occurred in June 2025, when he allegedly entered the woman’s home, slapped her, threw her on a bed and choked her until she couldn’t breathe. He was on duty and in uniform at the time of the alleged assault, authorities said.
Zach was arrested for a second time in August, when ammunition was discovered in his bag at New Haven airport, according to police. He was not allowed to possess ammunition because he was the subject of a protective order.
