An Australian podcaster known for his love of conspiracy theories, the occult and “everything clandestine” has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death.
Tobias Marcus Nuttall, 32, who co-hosts the “Waking World” podcast, was arrested on Wednesday after authorities were called to a home in Bassendean, Australia, and found a 30-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to local reports.
She was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital in critical condition but later died from her wounds.
Nuttall was taken into custody and appeared on Friday in Midland Magistrates Court, where he didn’t speak other than to confirm his name, according to Australia’s ABC News. He was ordered to remain in custody until his next court date on Sept. 17.
No other information was given by prosecutors, though an investigation into the murder is ongoing.
Nuttall’s podcast co-host, Dale, has since released an episode in which he appeared solo and informed listeners of the “tragic” incident.
“It’s nothing to do with whether we’ve fallen out, it’s much worse than that,” Dale said. “Toby has been charged, or is being charged today, with a very, very serious offense over in Perth, something that happened on Wednesday.”
Dale confirmed that he had “very little detail” about the incident, but said he felt the address it “because it’s gonna come out in the news.”
Before launching the podcast — described as a place “where reality gets a reality check” — Nuttall graduated from the University of Notre Dame, according to local reports, citing his social media accounts. In more recent years, he worked for a NSW-based recruitment company.
