Cops arrest gunman who shot father of two steps from Bronx home

Detectives have arrested a 42-year-old parole absconder accused of gunning down a father of two just steps from his Bronx apartment building, police said Friday.

Marcus Jayson was apprehended on Wednesday and charged with murder, manslaughter and weapons possession for the Sept. 20 killing of Amaury Carrion, who was fatally shot on Rev. James A. Polite Avenue near E 163rd St. in East Tremont.

Carrion, 46, a dog breeder and trainer, was outside his home at about 12:30 p.m. when Jayson approached and opened fire, hitting him multiple times, police said.

EMS rushed Carrion to Lincoln Hospital, where he died.

Carrion left behind two daughters, friends said in a GoFundMe post seeking donations for the heartbroken family.

“He was a devoted father, a respected man, and someone remembered for his kindness and good heart,” said friend Federico Reyes, who put together the post. “His sudden passing has left an immeasurable void, especially for his two beloved daughters, who will miss their father every day.”

An online obituary said Carrion was a “proud Puerto Rican who carried his heritage with passion and pride.”

“A huge New York Yankees fan, an avid fisherman, and a devoted dog lover, breeder, and trainer, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures and was happiest when sharing those moments with loved ones,” the obit read. “He was known for his blunt honesty, his sharp wit, and above all, his good heart. Amaury was well respected and admired for always speaking the truth, no matter the circumstance.”

A motive for the killing was not immediately disclosed. Nor were details of how detectives linked Jayson to the killing.

Jayson has an extensive criminal record dating back to 1999. Over the years, he’s been arrested for robbery, weapons possession and driving a car on a suspended license, police sources said.

In January 2022 he was paroled after being convicted for attempted robbery and intimidating a witness charges in the Bronx. After his release, he failed to check in with his parole officer and was listed as a parole absconder, according to state records.

His arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court was pending Friday.
