Cops arrest truck driver who mowed down Queens man, 29, one block from home

Police have arrested a New Jersey box truck driver accused of mowing down a 29-year-old Queens man a block away from his home nearly seven months ago, police said Thursday.

Detectives from the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad charged Fritz Dupresil with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care — both misdemeanors — for ramming into Kevin Thoral on Jan. 25.

Thoral was crossing Hillside Ave. heading south in Queens Village around 6:20 a.m. when Dupresil, driving a 2018 white Freightliner box truck, made a left-hand turn onto Hillside Ave. from 212th St. and slammed into him.

Responding officers found Thoral sprawled on the street with injuries throughout his body. He was a block away from his Queens home, cops said.

Medics rushed him to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, but he couldn’t be saved.

Dupresil, 51, remained at the scene after the crash and wasn’t immediately charged, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Cops arrested him Wednesday and gave him a desk appearance ticket, ordering him to return to court at a later date to face the charges.
