New Jersey authorities have identified the victim fatally struck by a train on Christmas Eve as a 76-year-old Pleasantville woman matching the description of a person earlier reported missing.
Loretta White died Wednesday night after being struck by Train 4634 on the Atlantic City Rail Line bound for Philadelphia, according to NJ.com. The incident was reported roughly 30 minutes after a 76-year-old Pleasantville resident by that name was reported missing by the Village of Pleasantville Police Department.
Pleasantville authorities asked the public for help locating White Wednesday evening on Facebook. She was last seen a couple hours earlier, dressed completely in dark clothing. Police later updated that post to say the elderly woman had been located without further explanation.
Several Facebook users wished for White’s safe return on the night before Christmas.
The train that hit the victim was reportedly carrying 30 passengers. It’s unclear what led to White’s encounter with the train.
Atlantic City line service was temporarily suspended between Atlantic City and Egg Harbor City around 7 p.m. No one else was injured.
Pleasantville police haven’t returned a request for comment. An NJ Transit spokesperson couldn’t be reached by phone Friday.
