Sen. Cory Booker gleefully announced his engagement to girlfriend Alexis Lewis on Instagram Tuesday afternoon, and the internet is already buzzing about his betrothed’s striking resemblance to a famous ex.
“I’m thrilled to share: Alexis and I are engaged!” the New Jersey Democrat wrote, adding, “I am savoring the soul-affirming wonder of everyday life with my partner, best friend, and now my fiancée.”
Lewis and Booker, 56, have been dating for about a year and a half, and share a home together in Washington, DC, he told the Washington Examiner earlier this month.
Some commenters couldn’t help but notice her similarities in appearance to actress Rosario Dawson, who Booker was romantically linked to for about two years.
“Congratulations…but you definitely have a type…literally thought she was Rosario!” one Instagram user said of his Hollywood doppelgänger bride-to-be.
“Literally came here looking for this comment. Could definitely be sisters!” another said.
“I was like, Rosario looks great! But then I saw the caption,” wrote a third commenter.
Booker shared the news with several photos of the couple smiling from ear to ear during a recent trip to Hawaii, including the Senator down on one knee presenting a ring box to Lewis.
Dawson, 46, and Booker ended their romance in 2022, but remain good friends, People reported that year.
Booker, who has served as a US Senator in the Garden State since 2013, was mocked last month after accusing fellow Democrats of “complicity” with the Trump administration after they supported a package of bills aimed at boosting resources for police.
“That is complicity with an authoritarian leader who is trashing our country,” Booker said. “It is time for Democrats to have a backbone. It’s time for us to fight. It’s time for us to draw a line, and when it comes to the safety of my state being denied these grants, that’s why I’m standing here,” he said from the Senate floor.
In April, Booker set a record for the longest speech ever given from the floor of the upper chamber, claiming to have abstained from food and water before delivering a rambling 25-hour oratory.
Less than two months later, St. Martin’s Press announced it will publish the book “Stand,” intended as a companion piece to the record-breaking Senate floor bloviation, prompting some critics to accuse Booker of attempting to profit off the marathon speech.
More recently, Booker refused to back Zohran Mamdani for NYC mayor, and blasted supporters of the “defund the police” movement as “wrong.”
