A Connecticut police officer already on leave for a domestic violence investigation was charged with stalking his ex-girlfriend, police said Monday.
Julio Gil-Martinez, 29, was arrested for the third time in five months, dating back to his initial domestic violence arrest in November, the Hartford Courant reported.
In the latest incident, Gil-Martinez’s ex-girlfriend told police he called her numerous times and followed her to her job and multiple restaurants and bars, according to a police report obtained by local CBS affiliate WFSB.
Additionally, the woman had already obtained a protective order against Gil-Martinez, police said. The order prohibited Gil-Martinez from contacting the woman or coming within 100 yards of her.
Gil-Martinez was charged with first-degree stalking and violating a protective order. He posted $250,000 bail and is scheduled for a court appearance Wednesday, the Courant reported.
Gil-Martinez was first arrested on domestic violence charges in November, when a woman accused him of threatening, assaulting and strangling her. He was detained again in January for violating a no-contact order relating to that incident.
The New London Police Department, Gil-Martinez’s employer, placed him on leave following his initial arrest.
