CT man calls 911 to confess to mom’s murder in New Canaan

A Connecticut man was arrested for murder after calling 911 late Friday night to report he killed his mother, according to police.

Officers with the New Canaan Police Department were dispatched to the area of South Avenue and Gerdes Road around 10:30 p.m., initially for a report of a man yelling from the woods.

However, as cops were responding, a man called 911 from a home on Gerdes Road to confess that he killed his mother, NBC Connecticut reported.

When police arrived, they found the female victim suffering serious injuries. Emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not shared details on the victims identity nor how she died.

A suspect, identified as 20-year-old Sebastian Van Stockum, was arrested after authorities established probable cause, according to local ABC affiliate WTNH.

Stockum was charged with murder and is currently being held on $2 million bond.

Police said the incident appears to be isolated and does not pose a threat to the community.

An investigation into the deadly incident, led by New Canaan police with assistance from the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crimes Unit, remains ongoing.
