CT man charged in killing of toddler son, girlfriend

A Connecticut man was charged with murder in the death of his 19-year-old girlfriend and their 2-year-old son, authorities said Tuesday.

Jevon Tyrese Fletcher, 26, is accused of stabbing the victims multiple times inside an apartment in the 400 block of Meloy Road Saturday night, NBC Connecticut reported.

Police reported to the scene around 9 p.m. after neighbors called 911 to report hearing yelling and screaming coming from an apartment in the complex.

They also reported that a man “had jumped through a second-floor glass window and landed on the walkway that leads to [the] apartment,” West Haven police Sgt. Scott Allard told the New Haven Register.

The man, later identified as Fletcher, was taken to a local hospital for treatment and released early Tuesday morning.  He was then charged with two counts each of murder, murder with special circumstance and risk of injury, officials said.

Fletcher, who was arraigned in state superior court in Milford a few hours later, is being held on a $3 million bond.

The allegations against him are “as serious as you can get,” said Judge Auden C. Grogins.

The victims’ names have yet to be released by police, but local television station WFSB has identified the adult victim as Hailey Miller, a 19-year-old aspiring nursing student.

A GoFundMe page set up on the family’s behalf describes Miller as a “hard-working mother [who was] always looking to further her education/career [and] dedicated to giving her son the best life possible,” adding her “bright spirit, kindness, and unwavering love for her child touched everyone who knew her.”
