A Connecticut woman drowned her 1-month-old son in a brook after “hearing voices” and telling friends the Illuminati was out to get her, state police said Wednesday.
Sadie Fleming, a 27-year-old Washington, Conn. resident, was charged with murder with special circumstances for the death of her infant son, Hudson, authorities said.
Fleming and Hudson disappeared on the morning of June 8 near their home about 30 miles west of Hartford, cops said. After police issued a Silver Alert for the duo, Fleming was spotted that night, drenched in water and walking through a neighborhood.
Officers said Fleming appeared to be in an “altered mental state.” When asked about Hudson’s whereabouts, she responded, “What baby?”
After the short conversation, Fleming suffered a medical emergency and was transported to a nearby hospital, authorities said. When she woke up, she did not ask any questions about her infant son.
Investigators found Hudson in Mallory Brook about an hour after spotting Fleming, state police said. He had no pulse and was cold to the touch and unresponsive. An autopsy ruled his cause of death was drowning.
Speaking with officers at the hospital, Fleming said there were people “chasing after her and were trying to kill her,” state police wrote in an arrest warrant affidavit. A woman also told police that Fleming was “hearing voices” and feared “Illuminati people” before she and Hudson disappeared.
Fleming remains behind bars on $5 million bail, according to jail records.
