CT murder suspect arrested in Florida traffic stop

A man wanted in connection with a 2018 murder in Connecticut has been arrested in Florida after a traffic stop, police announced Wednesday.

Kevin Dias, 33, was pulled over in Mascotte, Fla., on June 27 and taken into custody after Florida authorities learned there was a warrant for his arrest in Connecticut, Waterbury police said on Facebook.

Dias was wanted in connection with the murder of Henrry Ayala in Waterbury on Nov. 5, 2018, according to police. Ayala was shot while standing outside his home around 4 a.m., cops said at the time.

Following his arrest late last month, Dias was held on $1.5 million bond at the Lake County Jail in Tavares, Fla. He’s awaiting extradition to Waterbury and was still listed on the jail’s online roster as of Wednesday evening.

When he arrives back in Connecticut, Dias is expected to face one count of murder conspiracy in connection with Ayala’s death, according to Waterbury police. Two other men are also facing charges in the case and remain on the run.

Santos Vasquez-Rivera, 32, is wanted for murder and conspiracy, while Carlos Alvarado, 32, is wanted for conspiracy, authorities said.

Dias, Vasquez Rivera and Alvarado were all with Ayala at a bar on the night prior to the murder, according to investigators. Waterbury police said an interaction between the four men may have led to Ayala’s murder.

Police have not provided any further details on the case. Dias’ status as a wanted man was not widely publicized in news reports prior to Wednesday.
