Cybertruck driver arrested after Hartford hit-and-run kills teen on Christmas

An arrest has been made in connection with a Christmas Day hit-and-run in Connecticut that left a teenage boy dead.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Tyron Davis, turned himself in on Wednesday, Hartford police said. He’s facing charges including second-degree manslaughter, three counts of first-degree assault, evading responsibility involving death, reckless driving, and failure to drive in a proper lane.

Davis was traveling in a rented Tesla Cybertruck when the deadly crash occurred in Hartford the night of Dec. 25. Police said he was driving along Cornwall Street when he attempted to pass the vehicle in front of him. When the Tesla crossed over the center line of traffic it also moved into the path of a Toyota Camry, striking it head on, according to authorities.

The Toyota had been carrying four people, all of them from the same family, including 14-year-old Malachi James. Everyone in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

Malachi later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at an area hospital after the crash.

A second child in the car was left with a broken arm, broken leg and a bruised lung, NBC 4 reported. A woman in the car also suffered a broken leg while the driver, identified only as Malachi’s father, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

When authorities arrived on the site of the crash around 9:20 p.m., both vehicles were still in the middle of the road. Police said the suspect had already left the scene, likely fleeing on foot.
