‘Daily Show’ correspondent Josh Johnson joins anchor rotation

Comedian Josh Johnson will get his shot at late-night prominence when he takes over the anchor desk this week on “The Daily Show.”

The long-running late night news comedy series, which propelled the careers of Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Steve Carell, Samantha Bee and Trevor Noah, announced  Monday it was adding a new rotating host to its lineup.

Johnson, a rising stand-up comic, has been a writer on the show since 2017 and an onscreen presence since last year. He’ll take his first turn as host on Tuesday.

With big shoes to fill, he joins the rotating cast of anchors who have helped guide the program into a new format after Noah left the desk in 2022. Stewart, also an executive producer, returned in 2024 to host the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series once a week on Mondays.

The Tuesday–Thursday host rotation has included Johnson’s fellow correspondents Ronny Chieng, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta and Desi Lydic.

Scheduled guests for the NAACP Award winner’s first week are “Great Black Hope” author Rob Franklin, rapper Samara Cyn and “Happy Gilmore 2” actor Christopher McDonald.

Called “the funniest guy on the internet” by WIRED magazine, Johnson is also a former writer and performer on “The Tonight Show,” where he made his late-night debut in 2017.

Johnson, 39, is currently performing stand-up around the country with his “The Flowers Tour.
