Democratic honcho abandons Eric Adams, backs Andrew Cuomo for mayor

Influential former Brooklyn Democratic Party boss Frank Seddio is abandoning Mayor Eric Adams and backing ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, he told The Post Thursday.

Seddio — who is the law partner of Adams’ political adviser and former City Hall chief-of-staff Frank Carone — said he doesn’t see a path for embattled mayor to win re-election.

“I love Eric. I supported him for all his races — for state senate, borough president and mayor,” Seddio said.

“I have been friends with Eric all these years. But looking at the circumstances, I don’t see a path where Eric could win.”

After turning from Adams, Seddio, a moderate Democrat, said Cuomo is the clear choice — though the former governor hasn’t announced he is running yet.

“Andrew is the best of all the other candidates. He has the managerial skills and experience to run the city,” Seddio said.

Seddio — who was recently approved as the Brooklyn Democrat commissioner on the city’s Board of Elections — said his Thomas Jefferson Democratic Club will be officially endorsing Cuomo on Tuesday.

He said the other left-of-center candidates running in the June Democratic mayoral primary are not worthy of leading City Hall.

“The progressives running are nothing but hypocrites. They were for defunding the police and now all of a sudden they say we need more cops,” said Seddio, who was chairman of the Brooklyn Democratic Party from 2012 to 2020.

Seddio, 78, also is closely allied with his successor, Brooklyn Democratic Party leader Rodneyse Bichotte-Hermelyn, who has been a staunch Adams supporter.

The politico also has long ties to Cuomo and his father, former Gov. Mario Cuomo. He supported Andrew’s runs for state attorney general and governor and Mario’s runs for governor and mayor.

He said the City Council has swung too far to the left.

“But I think Andrew can provide the leadership with the public where the City Council will have to pay attention,” Seddio said.

Cuomo, who resigned as governor in 2021 over sexual misconduct accusations he denies, is expected to announce his comeback bid for mayor on Sunday.

Seddio predicted that Cuomo would make a comeback, though not necessarily running for mayor, when the three-term Democrat visited Seddio’s political club in 2023.

Adams was indicted last September on charges he allegedly accepted more than $100,000 in illegal campaign contributions and travel perks from a Turkish official and others seeking to buy influence while he was Brooklyn borough president.

He has pleaded not guilty and long-maintained his innocence, and says he’s seeking re-election despite his unpopularity in polls.

The Justice Department moved to dismiss his case after President Trump took office.

But a federal judge ruled last week that he wants to hear from an independent lawyer before deciding whether to toss Adams’ corruption charges altogether.

Adams skipped a mayoral forum Wednesday hosted by the city’s largest municipal union, District Council 37, on the advice of his defense attorneys.

Other candidates running in the Democratic primary include state Sens. Jessica Ramos and Zellnor Myrie, City Comptroller Brad Lander, state Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani, ex-Assemblyman Michael Blake, former City Comptroller Scott Stringer and financier Whitney Tilslon.

Council Speaker Adrienne Adams also filed papers to enter the race for City Hall.

Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa is the declared Republican candidate for mayor.
