Weeks before the new season of “Saturday Night Live” kicks off in early October, comedian Devon Walker announced his exit from the long-running NBC sketch comedy series.
After three years, the 34-year-old funnyman took to social media on Monday to address his departure in a post captioned: “me and baby broke up ❤️.”
“Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell,” Walker wrote in a subsequent note titled “Wait .. did he quit or did he get fired?”
“We made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction,” he added.
In an Instagram Story, Walker also described his departure as “good news,” adding, “It was just time for me to do something different.”
The “Comedy Central Stand-Up” alum joined “SNL” in 2022 alongside fellow newcomers Michael Longfellow, Marcello Hernandez and Molly Kearney.
Walker’s news follows writer Celeste Yim’s announcement that she was leaving after working behind-the-scenes at the comedy institution for five years.
“Lorne hired me over the phone when I was 23 and the job literally made all of my dreams come true,” the Canadian comedian wrote on Instagram. “BUT it was also grueling and I slept in my office every week BUT my friends helped me with everything BUT I got yelled at by random famous men BUT some famous girls too BUT I loved it and I laughed every day and it’s where I grew up.”
The Lorne Michaels-created series celebrated its landmark 50th season with a star-studded primetime special, which was nominated for 12 Emmy Awards.
In a Puck News interview published last week, Michaels confirmed his plans to “shake things up” with the cast.
Season 51 of “Saturday Night Live” is set to premiere Oct. 4.
