Dick Van Dyke thinks ‘it would be funny’ if he died before 100th birthday

Dick Van Dyke is cracking jokes about his death.

The Hollywood icon, 99, and his wife, Arlene Silver, 54, took part in a charity event in Malibu, Calif. on Sunday and spoke about his upcoming milestone birthday that falls on Dec. 13.

“That’s right. I’m not officially a hundred until December,” Van Dyke said, per People. “Two months. Two months.”

“It’d be funny if I didn’t make it,” the comedian jokingly added.

Later in the event, Van Dyke said, “I brag sometimes about how I made it to a hundred and the truth is, if I had known I was going to live this long, I would’ve taken better care of myself.”

“And it is frustrating because I don’t know what I did right,” the Emmy Award winner continued, adding, “Other than her [Silver], I didn’t do anything right.”

Van Dyke and Silver, who have been married since 2012, participated at the Vandy High Tea event at the Vandy Manor, which raised money for The Van Dyke Endowment of the Arts and the Dick Van Dyke Museum.

The “Mary Poppins” star led a “Happy Birthday” singalong with the crowd for a 6-year-old fan at the event. He also sang “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and the theme song from “The Dick Van Dyke Show.”

At age 99, Van Dyke has kept up a healthy lifestyle that he’s said involves going to the gym multiple times a week.

“Somebody said, ‘To what do you attribute your age and physical condition?’ I’ve always exercised three days a week,” he shared in January on Ted Danson’s podcast, “Where Everybody Knows Your Name.”

“We go to the gym still, and I think that’s why I’m not stove up like my equals,” Van Dyke said.

But in June, Van Dyke sparked health concerns when he dropped out of a comedy event last-minute.

Silver explained at the time that her husband was not having a “good day.”

“When you’re 99 and a half years old, you have good days and bad days, and unfortunately, today is not a good day for him, and he’s sick that he can’t be here,” Silver told the audience at her husband’s musical fundraising event, Vandy Camp.

During another Vandy Camp event in April, Van Dyke insisted he has no plans of slowing down at his age.

“I’m a ham. I love it. I get a jolt of energy from an audience,” he said.
