A tourist is dead after suffering a medical emergency while on a ride at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
The man, identified only as a 53-year-old from the Philippines, “suddenly lost consciousness while riding the Frozen Ever After attraction” around 10 a.m. on Friday, a spokesperson for the theme park told People.
“After the boat was preparing to dock, cast members immediately arranged first aid to check on him and perform CPR,” the statement said.
The man was then “promptly transported by ambulance to North Lantau Hospital,” but pronounced dead some 90 minutes later.
In the wake of the incident, the man’s wife reportedly told police her husband had a preexisting medical condition. Hong Kong Disneyland later issued a statement saying an initial investigation had shown the guest’s death was “not related to ride safety,” according to the South China Morning Post.
“The resort deeply regrets the passing of the guest and will do its utmost to provide necessary assistance to his family,” a spokesperson told the outlet.
Few other details were provided about the incident.
In an update shared on Hong Kong Disneyland’s website, the company announced that Frozen Ever After will be temporarily suspended “due to operational adjustments” from Aug. 31 to Sept. 19.
