A doctor accused of trying to kill his wife on a Hawaii hiking trail was arrested Monday night, local police said.
Gerhardt Konig, a 46-year-old Maui anesthesiologist, was hiking Monday morning near the Pali Lookout on Oahu with his 36-year-old wife when he allegedly attacked her after she refused to take a photo with him, according to Honolulu Police.
He attempted to push her off the trail, struck her in the head with a rock and tried to stick her with a pair of syringes, authorities said.
Konig fled the scene but was later spotted near Pali Highway. He was arrested around 6:45 p.m. local time after a brief foot chase, according to police.
His wife was transported to a hospital in critical condition with multiple facial and head injuries.
Konig has been suspended from his job on Maui with the Anesthesia Medical Group pending an investigation, according to Hawaii News Now. Official charges were still pending as of Tuesday.
